Cookie Policy

Short version: one essential cookie, no trackers.

Last updated October 16, 2026

The short version

Gibbur only uses strictly necessary cookies to make the site work — a session cookie, plus a login cookie if you have an account. No advertising cookies, no analytics, no third-party trackers. Our fonts are self-hosted, so loading the site doesn’t ping Google or anyone else.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. They let the site remember things between page loads — like the fact that you’re logged in. This policy explains the cookies we use and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

The cookies we use

NamePurposeDurationType
__Host-gibbur (on HTTPS) or gibbur Keeps your session: protects forms against cross-site request forgery (CSRF), remembers that you confirmed you’re 18+ and accepted the Terms, keeps you logged in during your visit, and holds a random browser ID used for matching, rate limiting and abuse prevention. Only set once you open the chat, log in or submit a form — reading our pages doesn’t set it. Until you close your browser (session data is deleted from our server after 7 days of inactivity) First-party, strictly necessary, HTTP-only
__Host-gibbur_auth (on HTTPS) or gibbur_auth Only if you log in to an account: a cryptographically signed token that keeps you logged in between visits. It contains your account number and an expiry date — nothing else. Changing your password invalidates it everywhere. 30 days, or until you log out First-party, strictly necessary, HTTP-only

Because these cookies are strictly necessary to provide the service you ask for, it doesn’t require consent under EU and UK rules — which is also why you don’t see a cookie banner here.

No analytics or advertising cookies

We don’t use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, social media pixels or any other third-party tracking technology. The usage numbers we keep are anonymous daily totals (like the number of chats started) counted on our server, not through cookies.

Local storage

The chat page stores a few preferences in your browser’s localStorage: your interest tags (gibbur.interests), your recently used emoji (gibbur.recentEmoji) and, if you’re not logged in, your tic-tac-toe totals (gibbur.tttRecord). This stays on your device; it isn’t a cookie and isn’t sent to us automatically (interests are only sent when you start looking for a chat). You can clear it anytime by clearing site data for gibbur.com in your browser.

How to control cookies

You can view, block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you clear cookies and site data for a single site. Useful guides:

If you block or delete our cookies, you’ll be logged out and will need to confirm you’re 18+ again, and the chat won’t work while cookies are blocked.

Changes to this policy

If we ever add another cookie, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date. If we add anything that isn’t strictly necessary, we’ll ask for your consent first.
